The Big Man In The Middle: Alton Montague
Our second Forgotten Warrior is Alton Montague, 'Big Al" to friends and foe alike. A giant of a player who was quick as a cat and, as a lightning nimble nose guard, plugged the middle of coach Brockert's defensive line. Big Al would consistently punt the football 50+ yards with excellent hang-time--I always felt, given the proper circumstances, Big Al could have played professional football, and without a doubt punted in the NFL. A player who demanded respect and gave it. Big Al was a leader on and off the field. A true star . . . and friend to this day.
