The Amazing Guy Bowman

Third on the list of Forgotten Warriors is the #2 light heavyweight champion of the San Pasqual football team. As co-captain of the team that year, Guy Bowman, or 'Salt', was going to miss homecoming that year because of being late to practice one day that week. Guy, who was a middle linebacker and knew his way around rough neighborhoods, had mixed it up with the best of them, and 'suggested' if I weren't the coach, he would teach me a lesson I wouldn't forget. After getting the boxing gloves and putting the team around us, we had a 'discussion'--Guy lost, learned a lesson, played in the game and still holds the record for most tackles in a single game. Another life's lesson learned, and a coach who could have been sued, or worse, put in jail. But we both were better people, and I a better coach, for the experience. A very good man he still is. Thanks, Guy.
